11 Favorite Activities at Quartet Senior Living

Jul 7, 2023

When you’re enjoying your retirement community, you’ll likely be interested in learning about the clubs, events, and other ways to fill your calendars with fun activities. Staying involved in your community helps you socialize, keeps you active, and means you’ll always have something to look forward to.

Quartet Senior Living has all kinds of fun activities for seniors – there’s something for everyone. Here are some of the favorite activities and pastimes in our community.

1. Book Club

Now is the perfect time to get to your to-be-read pile – but one of the best parts of reading a book is discussing it with others. You can share your ideas and opinions of the book, and hear the interesting and unique perspectives of the other members in the book club. Take a look at Time Magazine’s 25 new books to read this summer to find your new favorite read.

One exciting thing you can look forward to at Quartet is the Bettendorf Public Library’s monthly visit. They bring books to the community so you can always find something new to read.

2. Putting Greens

If you enjoy golf or want to learn how to play, Quartet has you covered. All you have to do is visit our putting green. Not only is this a great way to get some exercise and enjoy the outdoors, you’ll also have a fun time socializing with others.

3. Arts and Crafts

Participating in an arts and craft activity allows you to tap into your inner imagination and creativity. There are all kinds of ways to engage with your artistic abilities – painting, drawing, or making a seasonal craft to decorate your room.

4. Spend Quality Time With Friends and Family

Spending time with friends and family is a great way to stay connected. Maybe you have a weekly lunch with friends, or you set aside a Saturday to spend time with family members.

“I love showing my family around the community and having them see what my life is like. Everyone at Quartet makes them feel welcome here.”

5. Games and Puzzles

Board games and puzzles are great activities for senior citizens with limited mobility. You can do everything at the table and don’t need to worry about exerting yourself.
Playing games and doing puzzles are fun ways to spend time with friends, challenge your brain, and be social for an afternoon. Maybe you’re a Scrabble champion or want to improve your chess strategy.
But, if that’s not quite to your tastes, you can also complete a jigsaw puzzle. The process of completing a jigsaw puzzle is gratifying whether you do one on your own or with a group of friends.
Bingo is a major favorite activity among residents. There’s no strategy or skill involved – just pure luck. But there’s nothing quite like being the one who gets to shout “bingo” and be declared the winner of the round.

The best place to play games or do puzzles at Quartet is in the Villager Club Room. You can also play shuffleboard, billiards, or visit the bar area to socialize.

6. Using the Outdoor Amenities

Quartet has a courtyard with a fire pit and covered porches that are perfect for sitting and enjoying good conversation in the fresh air.

This is the perfect way to take full advantage of nice weather. The covered porches provide protection from the sun, so you don’t have to worry about sunburn or limiting your time outside. When the sun goes down, the courtyard fire pit provides light and warmth so you can continue to socialize into the night.

7. Outings

While there are plenty of fun activities to do at Quartet, there are also lots of options outside the community. There are frequent bus trips to shopping destinations, casinos, and more in the Quad Cities metropolitan area. You could easily spend a couple of days exploring Bettendorf, Davenport, and Des Moines.

“The outings are so much fun. My friends and I love all the sightseeing and shopping.”

Using the bus makes it easy to include everyone who wants to go on an outing. This is the perfect chance for a change of scenery and to stretch your legs. You may find your new favorite coffee bar, discover a shop that creates a unique treat, or enjoy all the window shopping you can do.

8. Happy Hour

Happy Hour in the Villager Club Room sets aside time in the day to unwind and catch up with friends in your community. You can drink a cocktail or mocktail while you all discuss what fun things you’ve been up to lately. Happy hour is held in the villager area with a pool table, puzzle table, and shuffleboard.

This is also a great opportunity to introduce yourself to new residents and help welcome them to the community.

9. Coffee Talk

If cocktails or mocktails aren’t quite your speed, you can switch it up for a cup of freshly brewed coffee. Coffee and conversation is a resident-favorite at Quartet’s bistro coffee shop. The bistro is open to the public and also has delicious wood-fired pizzas, including a pizza that’s featured monthly.

Sitting down with friends and enjoying a hot cup of coffee is a pleasant way to start your day or give you a helpful boost in the afternoon, and if you’re feeling hungry, definitely try one of their pizzas.

10. Continued Education

Continuing to learn about new subjects or diving deeper into topics that interest you is a great activity to keep your mind engaged. You’re absorbing new information, asking questions, and staying curious – all things that benefit your brain.

11. Take Nature Walks

Sometimes, you just need to get out and into the fresh air. Quartet has plenty of outdoor space with beautiful walking paths, perfect for spending quality time outside. Get a group of friends to start a walking group and enjoy being outside together.

Having a walking group can give you a regular schedule to ensure you’re getting plenty of exercise. When you exercise regularly, you help lower your risk of stroke, diabetes and depression, and you can feel good about proactively taking care of your physical health.
